Actually, we see a good version of Peggy without Nancy in Winter Holiday. Because of how she is there, I never think of her as a follower. She is more like Nancy's companion in adventure. Nancy is older and more outrageous, but I have never thought that that makes Peggy a cipher as some have said. She is more responsible, like Susan, though in a different way. I think that she is one of the least understood and appreciated of Ransome's characters.
