Consistency of the Canon

I don't recall this topic (per se) coming up before, but although there have been several
observations about the occasional mistake which AR made (and he made very few considering the size
of the overall canon), what I find remarkable is the consistency across the books. It is not at all
remarkable to find authors who, having written a multiple book series involving the same people, even
not as intertwined as the S&A books are, being caught out again and again with inconsistencies between
earlier and later works, or wanting to (and sometimes insisting on) going back and rewriting earlier books
to conform to where the story went in the end. It may have been made easier because he wrote children's books
set in a very specific locale or two, but I'm not convinced -- especially since children tend to be rather
unforgiving of those kinds of things, at least when they notice them (and children tend to notice them,
too!)
