On a recent visit to Ireland, I found that in the Gaeltacht, all road signs were only in Irish, including place names which were only in their English versions on most maps and guide books and conversation with the locals. Given that on any summer's day there are thousands of tourists driving around looking for English place names on Irish signposts, I am only surprised that the accident rate is not greater.
