When in Wales we ate lunch in a roadside cafe where everyone of all ages was speaking Welsh including the waitress. She was very polite when we looked blank at her first words though, and switched smartly to English.
There are some places in NZ where the locals speak Maori pretty much exclusively, but few road signs are in Maori (I've seen more in Japanese in Christchurch) and only recently has there been a Maori TV station which has as much content in English as Maori.
