I think it was in CC that it was stated that they came from London. Whether they lived there is a moot point, as I have not yet discovered a skating rink (WH) in the 1920/30's near a London University building. Perhaps their parents moved from Leeds to London when LU opened it's new archaeology department.
London has always been referred to (by Londoners) as a town. The city only refers to someone who works or lives in the Square Mile (the financial area of London).
