English crime writer Marjorie Eccles has read AR, as she writes in “A Species of Revenge” (published 1996, page 66):

“He knows now who she reminds him of. She is an Arthur Rackham child, thin and spindly, a child in an illustration, with windblown clothes and hair, who dances under witchlike trees with spiky, insubstantial fairies and elves. Or Titty in Swallows and Amazons, still on occasion his preferred bedtime reading”.

The character who thinks this, Francis Kendrick, is eccentric but is not the murderer! Arthur Rackham’s illustrations were discussed here a while ago.

PS: who were the characters Sam Packer & Ernie Kidd in the 1963 TV seris of Swallows and Amazons? The Policeman & the Burglar? See cast list:
