There's a non-fiction book called 'Of Sheep and Men,' by Robert B. Robertson. Published in the late 1950's, it's set in a Scottish sheep village, and describes the 'sheep year.' I found it funny and enjoyable.
Robertson wrote at least one other book, 'Of Whales and Men,' about life on an Antarctic whaling ship. Interesting, but a somewhat tough read in these modern 'whales are our friends' days.
