Terence Mc Manus comes close to the question I was about to ask, having just finished Pigeon Post. "Susan blued a birthday present on the mincing machine." The mincing machine I understand, we call it a meat grinder in the U.S. But what does the verb "to blue" mean?

On another question arising from the same book, have there been many fires in the Lake District? From AR's text I gather that the fires would be mostly grass and heather or gorze. I've seen the results of such fires down on Exmoor. But I've been in the Lakes a half-dozen times or more and have never seen any evidence of fires. How frequent? When was the last one that anyone can recall? Thanks. And belatedly, Happy New Year to all TARS.
