There is cake and then there is cake and I am not familiar with "Parkin" - my ex makes a wonderful Tomato Soup cake which tastes like a spice cake - no icing. I was, of course, refering to a "traditional" cake such as a "birthday cake" with icing and all the attendent decorations and attachments that make it a grandiose experience!

AND sometimes, like you say, without icing is great, also - it can be, when overdone, (that is why I like the 17th and 18th century art - is that it is so Over Done! and, sometimes it is simply just overdone). There are appropriate and inappropriate icings to everything - and to discuss appropriate and inappropriate could and would take up the rest of the years.

AND, YES! Mr. Ransome's stories have no extra icing, like the Parkin and the Tomato Soup cake!

Eric Abraham - What else is there to do in Kansas?
