Did a search for "ice cream" and found only one reference in GN, CH19:
"... and the old Dactyl popped out on deck, pink pyjamas, the very pinkest, you know, strawberry ice cream."
(Nancy's words.)
As a result of the education provided by this forum, I have come to learn that the concept of "ICES" is the same as what I thought was "ICE CREAM." What is so obvious to some is totally a surprise to others, depending on just how close one is to the culture being observed.
To me, the idea of "ICES" involves crush ice with a good squirt of some flavored syrum dripping down through the crushed ice particles, but then, what do I know. Some would call that a "snow cone."
With this new (to me) definition of ICES, I am a bit surprised that Nancy (see above quote) actually referred to ICE CREAM, not strawberry ices.
It seems a bit out of place, as if the GA called her "Nancy" (which she did in the earlier editions of PM, but that got fixed.)
