I love this thread, but can't contribute much, as I came to AR as an adult. I had never seen the books in the US, either in new or used bookstores. Many of my childhood books came from the local Goodwill store, so if they had been there, my dad would have bought them.
I did, however, spend hours drawing pictures of my Swiss Family Robinson house- I always wanted to live in the tree house.
