I grew up on Walls vanilla ice cream and never really liked the stuff

My recall is the same as Adam's. I always preferred 'back-street' ice-cream, which tasted as if it actually had cream in it. It was often sold from ornate carts (white with gilt shaded lettering) by Italian descendants. It would be scooped out of a large (and probably unhygienic) tub. There was a round scoop for cornets, and a rectangular scoop for wafers, and each had a device for releasing the ball or block of ice-cream. Oh dear, I am getting perilously near a mechanical engineering topic here :-( so I'll stop. (It is also off-topic nostalgia - tut!) My mouth is watering, though, even now . . .
