I agree re Winnie the Pooh, Mike - disaster! However, the more recent versions of children's books done by film companies have been definitely better and much closer to the written form. I would bet the backlash from kids fed up with the mucking around of their loved stories(who can forget the film horror of 1001 Dalmations or Dr Doolittle - ugh!!) may have turned the tide - also the newer generation of film makers may actually want people to watch the films, not just admire their egos.
