"Christmas" being a muddled mish mash of various vaguely symbolic mythic flummery patched onto a pre-existing mid winter festival.

B*ll*cks! Christmas is now the almost universally accepted UK term for the period from mid-Dec to end of the year - a largely secular and commercial festival, but one with deep social overtones, for good or bad. It is pathetic for a group of people to attempt arbitrarily to foist another word onto the rest of us, whether it's 'Winterval' or anything else. What about 'Freezihols'?
