While not precisely children's books, the Miss Read novels have plenty of church-going and vicars. In one of the early ones, an American child comes to Fairacre, and is amazed by the prayers and hymms in school. When asked what is done in his school, he tells about the Pledge of Allegiance, which is equally mystifying to the English children. ("A pledge? Like the temperance people?")
