Re Roger and his skate screws. When I was a boy (too long ago to tell!) roller skates were often fitted to normal shoes or boots by means of a sort of clamp which curved up round the welt of the boot/shoe. A square ended screw was tightened by a key, also square of course, which drew in the two halves of the clamp on either side. They seemed to work pretty well. I haven`t looked up the source in WH, but could this be what Roger was talking about?
