I've never heard of the Bobbsey Twins, but will try and read about them now.

Seeing their names - Nan, Bert, Freddie & Flossie - I'd say on the whole, most children's names in literature are shortened to a familiar form. Yet AR has Susan not Sue, Roger not Rog, Nancy not Nan. Peggy, Titty and Dick are shortened, and Dorothea is occasionally Dot (but not usually). In CC/BS, they're all shortened - Tom, Nell, Bess, Pete, Joe & Bill - except George & Ralph (which probably can't be shortened anyway).
