I have no objection to lurkers. I think of them rather as users of a Public Library.
And it's not all bad. When I worked for IBM, we had online 'forums' which discussed various software topics, just like Tarboard. I used to contribute to the ones that covered my area of software.
When I retired, news of that reached the forum, and I was delighted to get an e-mail from an American I had never even heard of. He said he had been reading my contributions over the years and found many of them valuable. Better, he said he also wrote on behalf of two colleagues to thank me.
So I am on the side of the lurkers.
