I did meet someone a year or two ago at a TARS meeting who proudly

That's useful to know. Now I understand where you're coming from. I think
my reply to the gentleman concerned would have been the same as yours.

My intervention came at a price. I received four private e-mails after
the event. Three were supportive, one accused me of arogance. I still
agonise as to whether I could have drafted my advice in a way that could
not have been interpreted as adverserial.
