In SD after the shipwreck (Chapter 10) holiday tasks are mentioned, and John says you can do them anywhere. Later (Chapter 14) Susan mentions holiday tasks. John says his is Algebra, as “sailors have to know it”. They had nearly decided to be savages dancing round a fire (like the Eels in SW) rather than explorers, and it occurs to Titty that savages do not need to learn French verbs. But savages just squat down on their hunkers, eat raw meat, and never make maps. Plus John’s work on the new mast and Roger’s new tent, so they carry on as explorers and (shipwrecked) sailors.

Later in Swallowdale (Chapter 15) John decides, and Susan agrees, that it is time to start their holiday tasks, as they had not done any with a whole week gone. So the next day (Chapter 16) Titty is studying French grammar on the Watch Tower Rock until Roger sees the red-caps, and “French verbs had lost their chance for that day”. Roger does not have a holiday task.

Somewhere in SD (according to Bill Wright’s Guide) Susan’s holiday task is Geography. Where? The Amazons never have any, as far as I can recall. Are holiday tasks (for school) mentioned in any other book, or just in SD?

PS: if someone knows savages who make maps, could they advise AR not me.
