Peter H: I could do with help when I need it!

But what if they joined in the attack on you? :-) Seriously, there are any number of reasons for lurking. Shyness, nothing useful to say, a desire to learn a new subject, not wanting to get involved in a contoversial topic just as people usually don't butt into a nasty loud argument in a pub, unless they are the landlord wanting to restore order, just as Ian does here, fear of being put down by the longer term members etc. etc..

For some the desire to communicate outweighs those concerns, for others it may not.

However, I support completely your response to the person who wanted to discuss your TarBoard post off list. If someone wants to pick a hole in my agument, challenge a statement or comment approvingly on my posts, I wouls like everyone else to see that too. If you can read TarBoard, you can respond on it.
