What a great trip, the shame is that I may have gone past them at night whilst helping as passage crew on a narrow boat delivery from Manchester to London, between Cookham and Windsor locks.
When I joined the narrow boat there were no navigation lights as the lighting system had burned out. Anyway narrow boats do not normally carry port and starboard lighting.
So it was down to torches taped at 45 dgreees to the top of the cabin with a bike lamp red cover for port (shades of the Goblin in WDMTGTS), and a green Kennet & Avon Canal Trust paper bag for starboard. Pity the bike lamp did not work otherwise this would have made things easier.
