Plus a motor car and a (steam or oil?) launch at Beckfoot

NOT a steam launch.

SA "Then came the launch chug, chugging in to the landing place"
SD (John) "heard the chug, chug of a motor launch...the chug chug of the launch came rapidly nearer..." "Did you see the launch" asked John. "I can hear one" said Roger.

Steam launches do NOT chug chug. Even my own very imperfect launch is silent to a listener on an adjoining river bank. A Windermere one is absolutely silent, so silent, even to those on board, that the loudest sound is the ticking of the Engineer's watch. These descriptions simply could not apply to a Windermere steam launch.
