I was rereading SD last weekend, and thought again how much I admire that scene. I love how the story slips into dialect at that point- clearly Titty is hearing the best of all natives' voice telling the story.

I see it not only as AR's showing us how the end doesn't justify the means, but also gives us another look at Titty's imaginative powers. Nancy may want to shut the GA up in a cave or boil her in oil, but in the end, does nothing to get rid of her. Only Titty has the ability to attempt something like this, as she isn't able to see the possible consequences of her act. Of course, once they're real consequences, she is shocked.
