I don't dispute that Hegel wasn't the first to attempt to achieve a synthesis of views to establish "the truth", but I think his technique differs from the Socratic method. I have often thought of Socrates as an irritating old man wandering around making fools of everyone when they couldn't substantiate what answers they gave to his questions. Not much dialectic here, I fear. The upshot seems to have been that Socrates managed to prove that his fellow Athenians didn't know what they were talking about. No wonder he was put to death.
