No, no. Aqua regia is not a test for gold. AR is
giving us a simple lesson in logic.

A quick and dirty test for gold is to try concentrated Nitric Acid on its
own. If that fails to dissolve it then it could be gold. You can then
proceed to dissolve the metal in Aqua Regia and try precipitating gold
using a number of reagants:
