In CC, Starboard (Chapter 19) lowered the pan towards the flames of the stove in the wherry Sir Garnet, turning the bacon to “gingerbread” according to old Simon, who tells them that husbants like bacon “thick and soft an’ jewsy”. Port says “But we like it the other way”. Jim nearly threw the well-cooked rashers overboard when he came down. It is a little coal stove in the cabin of the wherry, near the bunks.
