Peter, I never realised what a sensitive class conscious soul you are.

I have never cared and still don't whether the Swallows are snobby middle-class children or the Death & Glories were salt of the earth working class youngsters.
Ransome wrote twelve good story with believable characters doing (mostly) believable things. The fact that the some or all of them were possibly rich upper or middle class and others were not is hardly relevant. I get more hot under the collar when people try and bring modern day obsessions and perspectives and try and apply them to a 1930s-40s setting.
