Well, I think from my recollection that Ed would find that they didn't call him Master John anywhere in the books.

I admit I am speculating about what they would have called him (if anything) based on my understanding of 1930s customs and usage. I wasn't there but my parents and grandparents were and I have read a number of books set at that time.
