There are numerous Shows Like the Ullswater one throughout England, they all feature country crafts, competitions and trials.
Competition amongst the farmers and country people is strong, from who has the best bull, sheep, ferret, to the best cake or flower arrangement,
all usually friendly.
I was a memeber of the Young Farmers(4H) in my youth and loved these shows. We went to the Yorshire Dales sometime ago and attended the Mukar Show, and apart from the fact it poured with rain, had a great time, Brass Bands and all the rest, Glad to see the tradition goes on.
I have always found the US county fairs to be more glorified funfares than anything like the English shows.
