The other 'gnome' book is called Down The Bright Stream. BB was the pen name of Denys Watkyns Pytchford ( some of those y's are actually i's, but I'm not at home to check.) As DWP he did his own woodcut illustrations, which are excellent. I don't see much AR influence in his books, except perhaps for an underlying appreciation of the English countryside. AR, in the the S&A series, anyway, didn't write about gnomes, and the Brendan Chase boys derive much more from Children of the New Forest, I would think.
