I hadn't thought of the different names for the same place option either, it's an intriguing interpretation but I prefer the idea that Alaska is somewhere on the NW of the Lake, above Beckfoot and in the general direction of High Topps.
If so, this might be an example of AR knowing more about his characters than he told his readers.(Didn't he once say something like this?). Nancy and Peggy would have plenty of time to plot and plan on their way between Beckfoot and Hooly Howe in the morning, they may have already talked about Alaska and Greenland before Nancy got the mumps. If the High Amazon was Alaska then the High Topps could have been Klondyke, thus anticipating PP.
