I read somewhere that the some of the americanizing of English derives from the English as spoken up to the revolution, on both sides of the Atlantic.
There is an island in the Chesapeake Bay, Smith island I think, where they still speak that period of english.
Anyway after the revolution the languages went their seperate ways and are both different today. the Americans however retaining some of the early english prononciations.
