Getting a long way from AR, the aircraft in the Dam Busters raid were:-

A-Apple
B-Baker
C-Charlie
E-Easy
F-Freddie
G-George
H-Harry
J-Johnny
K-King
L-Leather
M-Mother
N-Nuts
O-Orange
P-Popsie
S-Sugar
T-Tommy
W-Willie
Y-York
Z-Zebra

Despite having a VHF licence which in theory confirms my knowledge of today's phonetic alphabet I still find it easier to remember these, doubtless because of too much reading RAF stories at an impressionable age in the 1950s
