And not just tools. Depending on the country, you are “hoovering” or "luxing” when Vacuum Cleaning the carpet. From Hoover or Electrolux cleaners. The Electrolux brand originated in Sweden, but they were the commonest brand in New Zealand in the days of Import Licensing when local manufacturers (or assemblers) were protected by tariffs. And often Import Licensing too, as licences were not given for items manufactured here.

Those days are long gone for NZ manufacturers. But farmers in the EC, USA & Japan still have all sorts of protection of course. Like the EC CAP (Common Agriculture Policy) gravy train, supported by various types of venial politicians from the right and left! And most of the money goes to big farmers, not French peasants.
