One of my favorites is "TV" (here) and "telly" (UK). To me, the latter sounds a bit silly, maybe because it rhymes with belly & jelly.... I suppose TV sounds odd to most of you :-)

No, 'TV' is universal but 'Telly' is part of the famous British irony, you know. Do you get 'The Royle Family'? All part of that.

By the way, I am deeply bored by 'The Royle Family', but I think that there's some irony in there as well, and it appears to be popular. Well, 'Telly' was a satire on the real life '50s equivalent of the Royles.
