I fully agree with Elizabeth. We have a cottage on a small lake in Ontario which has a pair of loons every year. There are no motorboats on the lake and the birds take very little notice of me as I take my pre-breakfast paddle around the lake. As Elizabeth says the profile in the last picture seems exactly right. Even though I see them regularly I don't take them for granted and am engaged in trying to find a better site for them to nest as they have successfully bred only twice in the 18 years we have been there. I think the culprits are racoons.
