They are alive and well on the Broads - admittedly only a tiny minority

Oh sure- nothing's changed at all. The Hullabaloos weren't a matter of class- just of vulgar humanity. That's not for Christmas, it's for ever.

As for their songs and the radio programme they were listening to; 'the Hoodlum Band' and all that. Well, like I said, caricature, innit squire?

In fact I'm doing AR an injustice. When finally confronted with Tom's apology on Breydon the man's response to a decent gesture is a wonderful display of selfish spleen (Blast your special bird) which is absolutely true to life. Not caricature at all. But on the whole, I think he has fun with them and invites us to join in. And I think it works. But it would- he's so good.

And of course there is a Hoodlum Band. They seem to be based in Singapore. Probbaly not the same one, then.
