I flew over the Walton backwaters on a perfectly clear day three weeks ago.

Rising sea levels have already had a major impact. Blackberryland is no longer solid land, but a diminishing patch of saltings. The channels to the East of Horsey Island have been scoured clean of vegetation and are wide and sandy rather than narrow and muddy.

I visited Beaumont Quay a couple of years ago. The London Bridge sign had been chipped off from its panel on the old barn. I also visited Landermere and wondered why AR's surveying party had missed this fascinating village.
