Great northern divers on British inland waters are not uncommon in winter. There's been one on Carsington Water in Derbyshire for several weeks now. To see a superb photo of a GND in winter plumage go to: http://www.birdguides.com/birdnews/worldpictures.asp?f=127993.

Love to hear from and AR fans in Derbyshire/East Midlands.

I was introduced to AR by the French teacher at secondary school when I was 11. As a relief from studying, he would read to us from Big Six. Sadly he left after that first year, but he whetted my appetite and I still read the books 50 years later! My favourite story is Winter Holiday.
