John's link details some "improved" versions of Casabianca. Others beloved by the mid 20c schoolboy included :-

The boy stood on the burning deck
His arms were all aquiver
A shell shot blew one off
And it floated down the river!

OR

The boy stood on the burning deck
When all but he had fled
A cannon ball came crashing over
And blew away his head.

There are other versions, but I fear recalling them would lead to instant and permanent banishment from Tarboard.
Perhaps one can imagine the GA's reaction to Nancy and Peggy reciting the "improved" versions
