I would argue that a degree of preliminary organisation by adults in not incompatible with the Ransome ethos.

I'd say it was fundamental. In every book. Ransome was a realist (PD and ML notwithstanding- but they were referred to as inventions).

The most independent of the children were the Death and Glories, rather more left to themselves. But adults have a large and continuous supporting role in all the adventures.
