AR also referred to Evgenia as "The critic in the hearth". I am not sure whether this was meant humourously or not.
I thought Diane's article was very insightful (especially as it points out that she may have been more reflecting AR's own moods than expressing an independent voice). But it does seem that Genia, even if acting mainly for "domestic" reasons, was a negative force on AR's creative production, if only by re-inforcing his own negative views of his work before it was completed.
