If somebody could look in the archives and find the Nautical Almanach for 1932 (or 1931) they could check the tide tables and find out the exact dates on which these events happened.

Just to clarify a little more, high tide about 2pm occurs approximately every fortnight.

So if (since we are indeed in the realms of fiction) WD and SW had been set in 2006 then the Goblin would have drifted out to sea on Saturday August 26th (High water Harwich 1258 GMT, 1 58 British Summer Time) and they would have gone to Secret Water on Sunday September 10th (High water Harwich 12 58 GMT, 1 58 BST). Daddy picks them up again a week later on 17th September, (H W 0715 GMT, 8 15 BST) - tide rather early but still quite a good fit.

17th September probably allows them to get to boarding school on time - otherwise we have to shift all dates a fortnight earlier.

Of course the tides in 1931/1932 would have occurred on different dates.
But it shows how carefully AR worked out the background - anyway with a boat on the Orwell the local tides would have been second nature to him. I bet there would have been a perfect fit for SW in 1938, when he worked out the plot.
