As the owner of a Maurice Griffiths designed boat I have always been interested in whether Griffiths and Ransome knew each other well.

In talking to people, I have been told but not verified the following:

1) That there is a school of thought that Ransome "borrowed" from Magic of the Swatchways for We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea.
2) That the only documented meeting between Ransome and Griffiths was on the hard at West Mersea.
3) That it would make sense for Griffiths to have recommended Fred Shepherd to Ransome, as Griffiths learned his boat design skills in Shepherd's office. Shepherd designed Ransome's third proper yacht, Selina King.
