Yes, John, and thank you. I am genuinely with you so far. A word of explanation on my part: I did modern languages in the 6th form at school (that, in the UK, means the final two years of schooling), and then went on to study law. So I missed out on science at that level, although of course I did maths, physics and chemistry at a lower level. I suspect I am not the only TarBoarder in this category, so you might need to remember that when you next make a scientific posting of the type Dick might have appreciated.

The wording 'Dick would have appreciated this' is a very handy way to convert a slice of detailed science into an on-topic posting. Well, there was a lawyer in The Big Six - Frank Farland. Now I wonder if I could post on TarBoard 650 words of a jurisprudential essay (say, based on the Justinian Codex) and justify this by adding 'Frank would have appreciated this'? I wonder would Jock, Adam & Co rush forward eagerly to support my right to make such a posting? I wouldn't put your mortgage on it, John old friend.

As my father used to say to me: 'Don't expect life to be fair.'
