On a recent trip to London, I picked up several of the 'Biggles' books- aviation fiction for boys set primarily in the FWW, but also in the Second and the time in between. I've just started reading them, and have a feeling that they were on Roger's [fictional] bookshelf, if not during the time of SA, then certainly by the time of WD.

So far, they are quite enjoyable, as long as one allows for the distance in time, place, and thought. Reading books like this make me appreciate even more Ransome's talent at writing books that need no allowances whatsoever.
