It was 1962 when I persuaded my parents to abandon their preference for holidays on the South Coast
and to try out the delights of Walton. I had a wonderful time - found flint tools at Flint Island,
crossed the Wade, had tea at the native kraal and rode a horse for the first time in my life. The farmer's
family told my parents anecdotes about AR's visits to the island, but at the time I was much more
interested in the fictional adventures of the S & A's than AR's real life escapades.
