Reported in the Guardian today that Arthur Ransome and Swallows and Amazons were 77th in this poll for World Book Day, though I can't quite work out who commissioned the poll - it was done online with only 2,000 people, asking them the most precious books they have read.

Most of the top 100 are fairly classic books, mainly novels, with a sprinkling of other children's authors and books (Lewis Carroll (29), Narnia (33) Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (99) Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree Collection (90) and JK Rowling (4). So not a bad showing really.

I think there are more details on www.guardian.co.uk/books
