For those wanting the ultimate safe tow then Spectron is the thing to go for. This is an amazing fibre and you can tow tons and tons on something just a few millimetres thick. If is should break then it just drops with no whiplash and no danger. You will now see it on some on the backstay tension tweakers of some of the racing yachts. Spectron is used extensively by fishermen and also in the offshore oil industry for tows and lifts although one has to be careful for abrasion. The main downside is that it is extremely expensive.
